How to Maximize Closet Space

If you are a shopaholic like me, your closet is a very important space in your home and it can easily get very messy. I have often researched organization tricks online, but many posts are of walk in closets or custom designs which didn’t really work for me. But I did gather various ideas and utilized them in my own way that worked for my sliding door closet.

  • Hangers

    • All of my clothes are hung on velvet hangers - they are thin, so you can fit more items in the closet. Plus, the velvet is non-slip so everything will stay put.

  • Shoes

    • I have used 4 shoe racks to store the majority of my shoes - 2 on the top shelf and 2 on the floor. The one above the clothing rack has a small shelf height, so I keep most of my low heels or flats up there. On the floor, I have placed the shoe racks to the right of the closet which creates a little bit of space on the left for long dresses or jumpsuits to hang down.

    • I utilized the wall space in the closet and installed acrylic floating wall shelves for heels. I was inspired by Alyssa Coscarelli’s shoe organization - she used IKEA curtain rods to display a rainbow of heels.

    • Honestly, all of my shoes don’t fit in the closet. As I said before I am a shopaholic, especially when it comes to shoes. I store my other shoes in a nightstand drawer and a woven basket near my dresser…it’s a little unconventional but it work for me.

  • accessories

    • Above the shoe shelf, I have placed all my handbags and 4 Sterilite stackable storage drawers - I store all beanies and belts in these. These drawers are great because you can see the product inside, which makes it easier to find.

    • On the right wall, I used white mesh baskets to organize my clutches and headbands. These baskets could also be great for storing flats or sandals as seen here.

  • Jewelry

    • I have a hanging jewelry organizer where I keep all of my earrings and bracelets.

    • All of my necklaces are hanging on these hooks. This could also be a great way to hang cross body bags.

I hope these tips help!

XO,

Elena
